Hello Dear Art Lover

OOPS I did it again..short and sweet

I’m so excited about the course I’m creating that I forgot to send you the free answer guide that you would get if you clicked on the button for the “Gel for Joy Experience’ on my website.

The What’s, How’s, and Why’s of Gel Printing. I’ve added it here so you don’t have to hunt for it.

It’s a simple guide for anyone curious about gel printing, whether you’re brand new or already happily covered in paint.

I hope it answers a few questions, sparks a few ideas, and maybe nudges you into the studio.

Thanks again for being part of my art world. I really appreciate you being here.

ROCK ON,

Gail

Hello Dear Art Lover

The Studio Lives Again!

First things first. Thank you.

The March Madness sale was honestly amazing. So many paintings found new homes and I’m still sitting here kind of stunned by the support. Every message, visit, share, purchase, and conversation meant more than you probably realize.

Artists spend a lot of time alone in studios talking to paint and coffee cups, so moments like this really matter.

You helped me turn a stressful season into a hopeful one.

Speaking of stressful seasons. The studio is finally coming together after leaving my previous space. There were definitely moments where I wondered if I would ever find the floor again under the piles of boxes, paper, paint, and mysterious cords that apparently belong to something important.

But it’s starting to feel right.

The tables are back. The paint is out. The ideas are moving again.

And that part feels very good.

I’m deep in the messy exciting stage of developing a new series right now. Lots of experimenting. Lots of papers everywhere. Some things are working beautifully. Some things are absolutely not. Which usually means I’m onto something interesting.

I’ll be sharing sneak peeks soon.

Also. Big news.

I’m currently working on an online course and I cannot wait to share more with you. This has been sitting in my brain for a long time and it finally feels like the right moment to bring it to life.

If you love gel printing, playful experimenting, and making art without overthinking every tiny thing, this is going to be for you.

You can also follow along over on Instagram @gailwilliamsacademy. Pls visit my website where you can also add your email so you’ll get the scoop on when the course opens.

That’s where I share updates for the Gel for Joy experience workshop and all the behind the scenes painty goodness.

Also. Can we talk about the weather for one second.

It’s spring. Allegedly.

One day I’m opening windows and feeling emotionally prepared to buy flowers. The next day I’m wearing three sweaters.

Canadian spring keeps everybody humble.

Thank you again for being here and supporting what I do. It truly means the world to me.

More new work soon.

As always, I appreciate your support.

ROCK ON,

Gail

‘Spirit Trees’ found it’s forever home. Thanks Andrea.

Thanks to Veronica for adding a Moonflower to her new home.

She also wanted this one.

Hello Dear Art Lover

DO YOU LOVE A DEAL?

I know I do. Last W/E the lovely Veronica came into the studio to collect a painting that she had loved since she first saw it in one of the outdoor artfairs I used to do. She is thrilled to have ‘The Wallflower’ going on a wall in her new home. When she was here she also picked up 3 of the Flora series and 4 others that hadn’t made it to the website yet. I am thrilled that all those beautiful artworks are going to be a home where they will be enjoyed.

Send me a message or reply to this newsletter and I’ll be happy to make your home a reflection of your soul. I’ll have the studio open this W/E Sat and Sun noon to 4pm 7 Labatt Ave. Text me at 416-271-3934.

Hello Dear Art Lover

MARCH MADNESS..don’t miss it

The Ides of March are upon us! Well the hammer came down this past week. We got notice that the company from whom we rent our studios is in receivership and we need to vacate. My decision is to move back to a home based practise. If you’ve been to my studio you can imagine that I have a gigantic job ahead of me.

To make the moving a bit more manageable, I have decided to celebrate MARCH MADNESS DAYS. I would love to send as much of my art to their forever homes as I can, so I’m asking you to help me out and am offering you a once in a lifetime deal. Almost all paintings 30 x24, 30x36 and 30 x40 inches will be only $300. 12 x 12’s will be $75, and 6x6’s will be $50. You can also check the website for a piece you might have had your eye on. I will hold your choice when you etransfer the funds to me. gail@gailwilliamsartist.com. First come, first served.

You could come for a STUDIO VISIT March 7 and 8, March 14 and 15 and March 21 and 22. Or any mutually agreed upon time. Hours will be noon to 4.

Also, I am attaching here 2 original framed watercolours that were inspired by one of our Paint Chick travels to Chatham Mass. Thanks to Kimfor sharing her love of the ocean and her expertise in teaching me watercolour.

As well, I am thrilled to have been accepted into a very special art show at Propeller Gallery, 30 Abell St, near Queen St W and Gladstone. ‘Joseph, All Dressed Up’ will be in their show honouring long time Propeller artist, Gwen Tooth. The show entitled ‘Intangible Experiences’ runs from March 25-April 12. Details to follow.

Can you come out to play with me? I’ll be teaching gel printing at Karen Franzen’s studio at 3 Wembley Ave on Sat April 4, 10am - 1pm. You’ll learn some new tricks with the gel plate and I will share the basics for beginners. All supplies included for only $75.00

And as ever, I appreciate your support.

ROCK ON,

Gail

Hello Dear Art Lover

Well that was fun….NOT!!!

I’m referring to that bit of snow we got recently. Although I don’t mind the cold and the snow, but really sometimes it’s just too much. The main problem being that living where I do, parking the car can be a challenge. There’s no place for all that snow to go and so I find myself not wanting to abandon my cleared parking spot. Of course some dude will snatch it up the minute I pull out.

However, this forced stay at home time has meant I didn’t have any excuse to procrastinate on some projects I’ve got on the list.

THE AIR IS HUMMING….

Do you recognize this phrase as one of the tunes in ‘West Side Story’? I could probably sing every song in that iconic musical and reflecting on it, I can honestly say that that musical affected the trajectory of my life. Growing up in northern Ontario instilled in me a deep love for the dramatic waters of Lake Superior and it’s vast boreal landscape. However as a teenager, I could hardly wait to escape and start adventuring. Not getting into art school and falling into a career as a radiation therapist was, in hindsight, a blessing. But we won’t go down that road today.

Many times I have been asked if I will do an online workshop and I am very excited to let you know that I have some exciting projects planned. Very soon I will announce details, but to start off, I will let you know that I plan to feature an online auction once a month. You’ll be able to score original paintings from the vault at a fabulous low price.

Are you ready to come and play gel printing with me at my friend Karen Franzen’s studio? Mark your calendars for Sat April 4, 10-1 pm. I’ll have some new techniques to share with you to expand your practise and if you are a gel virgin, you’ll find it beginner friendly.

There will also be a 5 week course starting on Thursday Mar 5, 10-1 to Thursday April 2, at my studio at 7 Labatt Ave. We’ll explore more ways to use the beautiful papers that we create. The possibilities are endless.

As you are an art collector, you may be interested to know that according to artsy.net, paintings that celebrate flowers are one of the most popular trends at the moment. I do have quite a few floral mini paintings some of which incorporate my hand made gel printed papers. I’ll put a few here and perhaps you’ll have a place for a bright splash of spring. You can see many more at my studio to which you are invited any time.

A new painting has arisen in my studio. It evolved from a drawing I made at a life drawing session. It is collaged with fabric and gel printed papers and acrylic. My genius grandson Theo named it ‘The Questionable Conversation’. You may take it home for a trial run if you’d like.

And as ever, I appreciate your support.

ROCK ON,

Gail

Gail's Geli Plate classes were so much fun and full of fresh, creative ideas.  I learned new techniques in a relaxed, playful way that sparked inspiration and made experimenting feel easy and exciting.  I always left classes with new skills and a big smile.  Thank you Gail

Hello Dear Art Lover

And…we’re off..the hooves hit the ground

WELCOME THE YEAR OF THE HORSE

I sincerely hope that your holidays were as wonderful as mine. Both Ingrie and Joanna, Fox and Theo were in town to spread their special cheer. Joanna gave me the priceless gift of completely taking over the Christmas day meal. She’s like a general planning it all down to the minute. And the food she made was divine. To top it all off, Ingrie was a storm trooper on clean up. I hope I’m finally learning how to let go of the reins. It’s not easy as I’ve had so many years of practise.(if you know what I mean)

This year is starting with a beginner friendly gel printing workshop that my friend Karen Franzen is hosting in her pottery studio. Gel printing is such a fun and easy way to make monoprints. There are many ways to use the papers or just keep them to amaze your friends. Small class sizes mean you’ll get all the help you need. I provide all supplies and you’ll take home some lovely work. I promise.

Next up, I’m planning a 5 week gel printing course starting on Thursday Jan 29- Thursday Feb 26 in my studio at 7 Labatt Ave. We’ll explore more ways of creating and using the amazing papers we make. Mark your calendars now as space is limited.

Fortuitously, I have many paintings featuring horses, both large and small. You can see ‘Eddies Horses’ at the Riverdale Hub gallery. If you’d like to see more in person, I invite you to my studio or check my website. Some are created using gel printed papers.

https://riverdalehub.ca
Riverdale Hub: Fostering Innovation and Community in Toronto
https://www.gailwilliamsartist.com

According to data from artsey.net, paintings about community will continue to be popular. There are quite a few in my website that celebrate social connection and the most recent and still available is ‘The Conversation’. I used my original hand printed papers using gel printing to embellish both the red bird and the background leaves. If you’d like a private viewing, let’s set it up.

BTW, I offer a home visit of any of my artworks in your home to see if it works. Let’s talk.

And as ever, I appreciate your support.

ROCK ON,

Gail
