Hello Dear Art Lover

What to do with the Ugglies!

You might think that every print I pull makes me swoon. However, nothing could be further from the truth. One of the tenets of my belief is ‘what would happen if I did this?’ I love to experiment with gel printing the same way that I do with my painting and I think that is why I love gel printing so much. It’s often unpredictable. When I get a print that could be considered a dog’s breakfast I never throw it away. I know it will find a home. That’s one of things I’ll cover in Gel for Joy.

Hello Dear Art Lover

This is your permission slip to….

Just in case you missed it. My Gel for Joy course is all about play and having fun. Not another thing on your already too busy schedule. Consider me your partner in crime as we run in the halls. (oh no!)

The FIRST EDITION LAUNCH covers the top 5 challenges that beginner gel printers face..when we get muddy or blurry prints, when the paper tears, used too much or too little paint and what do we do with the ‘Ugglies’. It’s a very low risk endeavour. You know I’m all about having fun and I think you’ll get that vibe right away.

Thanks again for being part of my art world. I really appreciate you being here.

Hello Dear Art Lover

Finally Launching!!

As I prepare this letter it’s actually feeling like a fall day. I’m kind of loving it myself but I know I am in the minority. The beginning of Sept has always felt like the start of a new year to me more than the beginning of an actual new year. And I am so excited I’m bursting. I’ve been working on a project for months that I can finally set out into the world.

Here’s your special invitation.

If you've been curious about gel printing but weren't sure where to start, this is the perfect place.

I've put together a short video as a First Edition Launch. It covers the 5 most common challenges that beginners will encounter.

For just $7 you can peek inside the course with this 'door crasher special' before the full Gel for Joy course opens in Sept.

Doors open Thursday Aug 20.

Doors close Monday Aug 24, midnight.

In Sept, I'll be opening THE PLAYGROUND for show and tell.

NO mean girls allowed. Just lots of play.

Can you come out and play? I hope so.

Thanks again for being part of my art world. I really appreciate you being here.

ROCK ON,

Gail

The WHAT’S. The WHY’s. The HOW TO’s of Gel Printing

1. What the heck is Gel Printing? Gel printing is a simple type of monoprinting using a piece of soft, flexible reusable gelatin-like material. It is often made of Silicone.

2. I don’t have a lot of space for creating art. The beauty of gel printing is that you can do it right at the kitchen table. Supplies can be minimal and stored easily in things like a pizza box or bin. Cleanup is a breeze.

3. I’m not an artist. That’s why so many people are drawn to this beginner friendly technique. You get immediate results and there is no pressure to create something perfect. In fact, making muddy or ‘failed’ prints can easily be printed over.

4. How much does it cost to get started and how easy is it to get supplies? A gel plate comes in various sizes and costs under $30. Available at any art store or online. You can use a variety of paints you might already have on hand. You can print on any type of paper and even fabric. You can even use acrylic markers and house paint. Scour your house and your recycling bin for objects to make impressions. You can make your own stencils and shapes from light cardboard if you want. BTW a gel plate can last forever.

5. What do you do with the papers you make? You can gift them to friends as works of art, make cards, wrapping paper, collage onto other work you have, add them to journals and scrapbooks. Or just admire them. You’ll make some you love just because.

6. I don’t have any time to squeeze one  more thing into my calendar. Gel printing provides immediate gratification without the pressure of having to create a masterpiece. It’s all about experimentation with PLAY being the driving force. I guide you every step of the way and then let your own imagination take over. I’ll be adding all sorts of fabulous new ideas that you can access whenever you want to explore this quietly addictive passion. I think that PLAY is the ultimate form of self-care. Active meditation.

7. How is this course different from all the youtube videos that are out there? I record my lessons in real time so you can see how long I leave the paper on the plate. You can watch whenever you want and I’ll have a monthly zoom called ‘JOIN ME IN THE PLAYGROUND’ where you can share (or not) DM questions and join me in my city if you're in town. We can hang and print.

Hello Dear Art Lover

Have I got a deal for you!!

Summertime….and the livin’ is easy…

Are you enjoying this on again/ off again weather? Here in southern Ontario, it goes from hot and humid to cold and rainy and then to balmy and blue skies. We get it all. My personal wish is about 25 and blue skies. I know a few people who enjoy the hot and humid. But we’re not close friends. (lol)

Quite a few people are lining up outside the door for Gel for Joy and I must admit there’s a steep learning curve getting this puppy ready for take off. I’ve decided to do a First Edition launch near the end of August and it will be a taster of what you could enjoy inside the course. There may be a nominal fee for this one time offer. For those of you who know me well, know that sometimes my head hurts real bad from all this learnin’. But I am determined to offer my best to you.

Sooooo..if you are interested in getting your creative juices flowing in a super easy, fun, no committment activity please reply to this newsletter and I’ll add you to the list. You may decide to join the Gel for Joy community at some point and that would be delightful.

The Gel for Joy First Edition Launch opens Wednesday, August 13 and closes Monday, August 19 at midnight.

This is a special early launch before the full Gel for Joy online course begins in September.

If you've been curious about gel printing but weren't sure where to start, this is the perfect place.

Details on how to join coming soon.

All information will be on Gel for Joy Instagram account called @gailwilliamsacademy. I am using my @gailwilliamsartist account for my paintings.

Thanks again for being part of my art world. I really appreciate you being here.

ROCK ON,

Gail

Hello Dear Art Lover

OOPS I did it again..short and sweet

I’m so excited about the course I’m creating that I forgot to send you the free answer guide that you would get if you clicked on the button for the “Gel for Joy Experience’ on my website.

The What’s, How’s, and Why’s of Gel Printing. I’ve added it here so you don’t have to hunt for it.

It’s a simple guide for anyone curious about gel printing, whether you’re brand new or already happily covered in paint.

I hope it answers a few questions, sparks a few ideas, and maybe nudges you into the studio.

Thanks again for being part of my art world. I really appreciate you being here.

Hello Dear Art Lover

The Studio Lives Again!

First things first. Thank you.

The March Madness sale was honestly amazing. So many paintings found new homes and I’m still sitting here kind of stunned by the support. Every message, visit, share, purchase, and conversation meant more than you probably realize.

Artists spend a lot of time alone in studios talking to paint and coffee cups, so moments like this really matter.

You helped me turn a stressful season into a hopeful one.

Speaking of stressful seasons. The studio is finally coming together after leaving my previous space. There were definitely moments where I wondered if I would ever find the floor again under the piles of boxes, paper, paint, and mysterious cords that apparently belong to something important.

But it’s starting to feel right.

The tables are back. The paint is out. The ideas are moving again.

And that part feels very good.

I’m deep in the messy exciting stage of developing a new series right now. Lots of experimenting. Lots of papers everywhere. Some things are working beautifully. Some things are absolutely not. Which usually means I’m onto something interesting.

I’ll be sharing sneak peeks soon.

Also. Big news.

I’m currently working on an online course and I cannot wait to share more with you. This has been sitting in my brain for a long time and it finally feels like the right moment to bring it to life.

If you love gel printing, playful experimenting, and making art without overthinking every tiny thing, this is going to be for you.

You can also follow along over on Instagram @gailwilliamsacademy. Pls visit my website where you can also add your email so you’ll get the scoop on when the course opens.

That’s where I share updates for the Gel for Joy experience workshop and all the behind the scenes painty goodness.

Also. Can we talk about the weather for one second.

It’s spring. Allegedly.

One day I’m opening windows and feeling emotionally prepared to buy flowers. The next day I’m wearing three sweaters.

Canadian spring keeps everybody humble.

Thank you again for being here and supporting what I do. It truly means the world to me.

More new work soon.

As always, I appreciate your support.

ROCK ON,

Gail

‘Spirit Trees’ found it’s forever home. Thanks Andrea.

Thanks to Veronica for adding a Moonflower to her new home.

She also wanted this one.

Hello Dear Art Lover

DO YOU LOVE A DEAL?

I know I do. Last W/E the lovely Veronica came into the studio to collect a painting that she had loved since she first saw it in one of the outdoor artfairs I used to do. She is thrilled to have ‘The Wallflower’ going on a wall in her new home. When she was here she also picked up 3 of the Flora series and 4 others that hadn’t made it to the website yet. I am thrilled that all those beautiful artworks are going to be a home where they will be enjoyed.

Send me a message or reply to this newsletter and I’ll be happy to make your home a reflection of your soul. I’ll have the studio open this W/E Sat and Sun noon to 4pm 7 Labatt Ave. Text me at 416-271-3934.

Hello Dear Art Lover

MARCH MADNESS..don’t miss it

The Ides of March are upon us! Well the hammer came down this past week. We got notice that the company from whom we rent our studios is in receivership and we need to vacate. My decision is to move back to a home based practise. If you’ve been to my studio you can imagine that I have a gigantic job ahead of me.

To make the moving a bit more manageable, I have decided to celebrate MARCH MADNESS DAYS. I would love to send as much of my art to their forever homes as I can, so I’m asking you to help me out and am offering you a once in a lifetime deal. Almost all paintings 30 x24, 30x36 and 30 x40 inches will be only $300. 12 x 12’s will be $75, and 6x6’s will be $50. You can also check the website for a piece you might have had your eye on. I will hold your choice when you etransfer the funds to me. gail@gailwilliamsartist.com. First come, first served.

You could come for a STUDIO VISIT March 7 and 8, March 14 and 15 and March 21 and 22. Or any mutually agreed upon time. Hours will be noon to 4.

Also, I am attaching here 2 original framed watercolours that were inspired by one of our Paint Chick travels to Chatham Mass. Thanks to Kimfor sharing her love of the ocean and her expertise in teaching me watercolour.

As well, I am thrilled to have been accepted into a very special art show at Propeller Gallery, 30 Abell St, near Queen St W and Gladstone. ‘Joseph, All Dressed Up’ will be in their show honouring long time Propeller artist, Gwen Tooth. The show entitled ‘Intangible Experiences’ runs from March 25-April 12. Details to follow.

Can you come out to play with me? I’ll be teaching gel printing at Karen Franzen’s studio at 3 Wembley Ave on Sat April 4, 10am - 1pm. You’ll learn some new tricks with the gel plate and I will share the basics for beginners. All supplies included for only $75.00

And as ever, I appreciate your support.

ROCK ON,

Gail
