Gail Williams - Biography

Colour is her language, and emotion is her guide!

As a Fauvist-inspired artist, Gail Williams embraces bold, unrestrained hues and expressive brushwork to create a world where feeling takes precedence over realism. Dogs may become bubble gum pink; grass may be vivid tangerine and jaguars and penguins may lounge in a bedroom setting. Her work is not about capturing an exact likeness but rather celebrating the energy, rhythm, and essence of a moment.

Influenced by the revolutionary spirit of Fauvism, her sense of adventure leads the way. Rejecting muted tones and conventional perspectives, Gail instead allows colour to dictate form and movement. Whether through striking contrasts or unexpected palettes, her paintings are driven by intuition, passion, and a desire to evoke emotion in the viewer. With abandon, images are often excavated and changing tools of exploration infuse her work.

Like the Fauvists before her, Gail believes that art should be liberated from strict representation and rules are made to be broken. William’s work is a celebration of the wild, the vibrant, and the raw power of colour to shape perception. Through this approach, she invites viewers to see the world not as it is, but as it feels.

Gail’s work may be found in Canada, the USA, Australia and the UK.
