2023-02 Living Artfully with Gail

February 21, 2023 in 2023

Hello Dear Art Lover

It’s been a minute

Hope you’ve been well..enjoying the no- snow winter. To be honest I would love to have some but I know I’d probably get a few dirty looks.

It’s been a little busy over here at Living Artfully with Gail. My studio has moved to another location at Warden and Danforth Rd about 12 mins east of where I live. It’s smaller unfortunately but the time had come to move out. I’m now sharing space with 3 other artists who were also at Labatt. It does have a bonus of a loading dock door we can open to the weather, so that’s a good thing. I’ve already been painting in the sunshine, despite the calendar.

We also were helping our oldest daughter with her move to Thunder Bay. She had a mountain of boxes to take with her. Although I will miss hanging out with her I’m hopeful it will be an exciting adventure for her and her partner. She has lots of cousins, aunts and uncles to help her out. Already I’ve seen her skiing and enjoying the sunny north.

On the art scene here, I have so much news to share with you. I’m booked til July with art shows, both indoor and outdoor.

First up is a dream come true! Elaine Fleck has accepted 2 of my paintings for her March group show. The opening reception is Thursday March 2, 7-9pm, at the Elaine Fleck Gallery, 1351 Queen St. West. I would be delighted to have you join me that evening. However, if another time would suit you, I could arrange to meet you there. The show is on for the month of March. I’m quite excited to be showing in this prestigious gallery.

When Ingrie moved to Thunder Bay, she took 5 paintings with her to be shown at Louise Thomas’ wonderful Indigenous Ahnisnabae Art Gallery at 18 Court St in Thunder Bay. Louise has graciously allowed a former resident of Thunder Bay the opportunity to have my art in her gallery in the past. Quite a few of my paintings have found homes in my home town. If your’e planning a cross Canada road trip, please drop in. Louise has curated an amazing collection of indigenous art and several pieces have found their way onto my walls.

In April, I am holding my first solo show. I found the perfect space at Studio1558, on Queen St East near Coxwell. The show will be called ‘It’s All About Love’ and will run from April 16-22. There will be a party happening on April 16. I’ll be sending out the invites so please keep your peepers open.

I won’t bore you with the details of my busyness just now, but please keep in mind that every month there will be an opportunity to see my new work. And you know you’ll always get a hug.

You may know that I don’t have a degree in art, but I love learning the history and trying to keep up with the contemporary art scene. I am very lucky to have friends like Angela, who send me articles. One of the types of art I like is graffiti and in another life, I would be a Graffiti Grandma, but it’s past my bedtime. I hope you enjoy this article that Angela sent me not long ago.

Your eagle eyes may have detected that I’m using another platform to deliver my newsletter. Another reason why I’ve been a little tardy. It should be no surprise to you that I have a certain frustration level in learning new computer skills. I’m surprised my head is still attached.

The Long Embrace is finally signed and ready for the April show. I attach it here for your enjoyment.

Rock on,

Gail
